Coupon Myth #1: Coupons are only for junk food and processed foods.
If I hear this myth one more time I just might scream! I feed my family of 5 a healthy well balanced diet, and every time I hear this I do get frustrated. The first thought that goes into my mind is “Do you really think I only feed my family junk food?” I believe this is the #1 myth about coupons that deters people from trying to use them. I suggest that they should give it 3 months; if they only see coupons for junk foods then quit using them. I have been doing this for years and have had my share of great junk food deals that I buy, and I still buy them because we occasionally eat them and we also share them. It helps when we have been invited to a cookout or a birthday party last minute, to always have something on hand to bring. There may be more junk food coupons than healthy food coupons out there, but that doesn’t mean that there are no coupons for healthy foods. It just means that you have to stock up on those items when they are FREE or cheap, then eat off your stockpile of those items until the next time a coupon like that comes out, which could be a month later.
With the increase in popularity of organic foods, they are much more prevalent now in mainstream grocery stores, and companies that make organic foods are more mainstream too. Therefore, there has been a huge increase in healthy/organic coupons being offered to the general public. There are health food coupons that are current out from these websites:
- Mambo Sprouts
- Brown Cow
- Stonyfield Farms (organic yogurt)
- Whole Foods (has some manufacturer coupons on this site at times)
- Organic Valley
- Barbara’s
- Earth’s Best
- Cascadian Farms
- Hain
- You can also write to your favorite companies and ask for coupons.
In addition, many companies are putting coupons for healthier foods inside the Sunday coupon inserts, as well as companies placing coupons for their items inside the supermarket aisles. There are also many great tips on how to save on Meats and Products. You can shop at Walmart and use coupons to get overages, and use those overages to pay for healthier items like produce. There are so many ways to work healthier/organic foods into your budget.
*I would like to add that I love eating junk food, however, if it isn’t FREE we don’t buy it because it doesn’t fit into our grocery budget.*
Coupon Myth #1 OFFICIALLY DEBUNKED!
What are some ways that you coupon to feed your family healthy foods?

**APPLAUSE**
I totally agree with you that lots of people think coupons are only for junk food. It doesn’t help when “Extreme Couponing” shows people buying 100 boxes of Ramen and 50 candy bars.
I use most of the sites you listed above to find coupons on organic foods. Also — one of the cheapest places to get fresh food is the farmer’s market! And, like you, we do buy the occasional junk items because I like it or for a party or something.
I am not afraid to say that I LOVE junk food, especially when it is for
FREE. I hate it when people say that coupons are only for processed foods,
and then I see their grocery cart and they are eating more unhealthy than I
am….
I use the money I save on household items (like toilet paper, shampoo, Windex, trash bags, toothbrushes and more) to buy fresh produce. Also, you can always find coupons for frozen veggies… they’re just as healthy as the fresh stuff!
I do BodyforLife and I’m still able to save a lot with coupons. I don’t do processed food at all except for my free day – when anything goes (junk food!!!).
I consistently save on nearly everything but fresh meat and veggies, and save on them occasionally. Just paying attention to the high/low sale cycles helps with the fresh food.
It’s a myth perpetuated by those who always have excuses.
We buy a ton of “healthy” food with coupons–free pasta, pasta sauce, rice, protein bars, water, juice, cheese, condiments, yogurt, whole grain cereal, just to name a few! My expenditures on personal care and household items has gone done by at least 75% with couponing! With the savings, it’s allowed us to buy organic, locally raised meats and produce straight from the farm that we couldn’t afford before AND still save a ton of money next to what we spent before coupons!
