Price Chopper NE Coupon Policy Change

June
22nd

It is OFFICIAL, Price Chopper Supermarkets has released their NEW coupon policy, we have heard rumors of this for a few weeks now, and I happy that it is finally out!

Here are the changes:

ALL Price Chopper stores will now double manufacturer coupons up to 99¢, starting THIS Sunday June 26th. Here are some examples of what this could look like:

  • 50¢ coupons = $1.00
  • 75¢ coupons = $1.50 off
  • 99¢ coupons – $1.98 (even though I have never seen a 99¢ coupon)
  • $1.00 coupon = $1.00

The few Price Chopper stores that were doubling coupons with a face value of $1 will be changing to a face value of 99¢ effective July 10th. This change results in a consistent double coupon policy, no matter which Price Chopper store location you choose to visit. This means that ALL Chopper Shoppers will be able to enjoy the savings of double coupons.

I am excited for the stores which this is good news for, and sad for those who have enjoyed the Double Dollar coupons from Price Chopper.  I will be doing one uniform coupon matchup that will work at any Price Chopper store, so that makes it easier for me and probably easier for everyone who is a Price Chopper shopper!

You can read the full coupon policy here.

It sounds great! Anyway that I can save more money these days is wonderful for my husband and I helps. Thanks for the update.

  2. Linda Mahoney says:

am sad to hear PC will no longer be doubling $1 coupons. Now will be rethinking where I shop as Shaws and PC now have the same benefits.

    • Dawn says:

I agree, our PC doubles 1.00 and I can’t remember the last time a manufacturer out out a 99 cent coupon. If PC doesn’t double 1.00 it’s back to Shoprite. In our particular area, this will result in an enormous amount of disappointed customers and they will all go back to Shoprite. Shame shame shame.

    • Cheryl says:

VERY sad …it is the only store in our area that doubled coupons….now I guess we won’t have to shop there because it won’t matter. Most coupons used by my friends are $1.00 and everyone takes those at face value…SAD

  3. Tammy says:

Bummer….my Price Chopper doubled $1.00 coupons. Can they get rid of the dumb 50% rule now?

  4. HeatherAnne says:

I’m pretty excited about this , being from the capital district, where they have never doubled coupons. Can’t wait to start following your double coupon matchups :)

  5. Dan says:

Read their facebook posts — they’ve got over 350 posts AND they’re responding to some. Out of every 10 comments 8 are against the post — one smart person suggested they raise the bar to a consistent $1.00 double —-

  6. Joy says:

So this means the Clay store should now take Target and BJs coupons. Or, will they pull the store management has right to accept or deny any competitor’s coupons? We shall see … Same with the free Internet coupons. The Clay store has never accepted these.

    • Amanda says:

Try the Cicero store…..I have used BJ’s and Target coupons there with no problems….I made sure to check with mngmt first before filling my cart, and I was told directly by them that Price Chopper considers Target and BJ’s to be competitors, therefore, they will accept their coupons….good luck!!

  7. Michelle says:

This is good news for me! My store currently only fully doubles anything under $.50. So now those $.75 ones will be worth more!!!!! Thanks for the good news.

  8. teressa says:

If you look at the link they give you on facebook it states that

Special Coupon Offers (Double and/or Triple Coupons)
All Price Chopper stores now double coupons! We’ll double up to 4 manufacturer coupons of like items, up to a specific face value per coupon.
To determine the maximum coupon face value your store will double, choose your store from the menu below.

Then it has a little box to choose your store and you click on the store and it will tell you how much that store doubles coupons with a face value of… My store still doubles $1. I don’t think that they are getting rid of that for the stores that are already doubling the $1. It is just they are making all stores that didn’t double able to double up to $0.99.

    • Lauren says:

They said that the stores that Double $1.00 coupons will change on July 10th to only doubling 99¢ coupons.

      • Tammy says:

        Hi Lauren,

Where did you find this information? I called my local Price Chopper that doubles $1.00 coupons and they told me that wasn’t changing and that the Price Choppers that weren’t doubling will now be doubling up to 99 cents.

        • Lauren says:

Tammy, the information came directly from the Price Chopper PR person I work with.

          • Rebecca A says:

one question… the picture you have posted only mentions the “Capital District”. Does this mean other areas are not affected or was that just local advertising?
            thanks

          • Lauren says:

All Price Chopper stores will now share the same coupon policy, doubling coupons 99¢ and under.

        • Tammy says:

I just called Price Chopper customer service to confirm this and it is true. They just haven’t told the stores yet. It looks like I will be taking my $1.00 coupons (which is most of them) to Hannafords as their prices are much better than Price Chopper without coupons.

          • Sara says:

i recently looked on the chopper website where you can select your store and it tells you the doubling limit. I was excited to learn that one chopper in my area doubles up to 1.00. but when i tried it out, none of my $1 coupons doubled. I guess they havent updated that part of their website to match their new policy just yet. bummer.

  9. Michelle says:

Oh my goodness you seriously (sadly enough) just made my day!!!!!

  10. Danette says:

I found a .99 coupon once. It was for the Purina Busy bones. I used it with the Purina CAT deal at Shop-rite a few weeks ago. The busy bones were on sale for $2.95 and with the doubled coupon it brought the price down to .97c. I used it with the $5 CAT for Purina and had a $4.03 overage.

  11. Rebecca A says:

Very SAD!!! my store doubled dollar coupons which was great because there prices are actually a lot higher than other stores in my area. for instance a pack of hot dogs is over $5.
Will most likely not be able to shop there anymore. Savings will not be enough to make up for the higher prices.

  12. vivshappy2clip says:

    Lauren,
I wonder if you would be able to do a short video explaining the 50% rule and how you apply this rule to your shopping trips to get maximum savings. I am located in Brunswick (Troy) NY where this store did not offer this and now does!!

As always thank you for all that you do and your match-ups! Love your site. :-)

  13. bSaves says:

I’M FRUSTRATED THAT THEY COULDN’T CHANGE NY AND LEAVE VT ALONE. IT FEELS LIKE VERY DIRTY AND SO I AM WITH @TAMMY…HANNAFORD HERE I COME

    • FrugalNYMom says:

I agree. I have always shopped Bennington because it is the same distance as the Brunswick NY store. Now all my $1, which is most, will get used at Shop N’ Save in Schaghticoke because their prices are much cheaper than Price Chopper. I think they just shot themselves in the foot with this idea.

  14. Stephanie Lumb says:

I am super excited! My store did not double so it is great for me, but the store near my mom DID double up to $1 so it is a great loss for her. it would have been better if they could have done the double up to $1 for everyone. Then no one would have been angry or upset, but what can ya do?! Anyway, I just wanted to say I have seen iamthatlady.com mentioned several times in the comments for match-ups so hopefully you will get some new readers out of this too!

    • Lauren says:

oh wow, thanks Stephanie, that is great! I am bummed for the stores that lost their double $1.00s too! It doesn’t seem fair.

  15. Tammy says:

Would it be possible for you to do matchups for Hannafords in the future or do you know someone in Vermont who does? Thanks so much for all you do Lauren!!

  16. Jenn says:

It’s to Grand Union now. They still double $1.00 coupons, for now anyway. There aren’t many Grand Union’s left.

  17. MacGyver says:

Yes, the following website does Hannaford matchups (under “other”)
    http://www.weusecoupons.com/upload

    • Tammy says:

I also found another great site that does coupon matchups for Hannaford. It is http://free.cheapestmom.com. Also, all the great deals that you should stock up on are highlighted in yellow, which is awesome. Worth checking out!!

  18. Sandra says:

YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m so happy! Finally! This is so exciting :)

  19. Joann says:

I’m a little confused. My local PC has always doubled coupons up to a $1 But didn’t go over $1. For example if I had a $.75, they would only double it to a $1. With this new policy, does it mean that they will now give me an additional $.50 off for a total of $1.50 or will it only goto $.99? Thank you in advance.

  20. Joann says:

Thanks Lauren! But which is correct? $1.50 or .99? TY again

  21. Joann says:

    Thank you so much Lauren!

  22. Jean says:

Perhaps you could do a little elaboration on the 50% rule, as another commenter requested? Or direct me to a post where you might have covered it earlier. If I understand it correctly, this rule is a royal pain in the rear. If I go in to grab one or two items with my coupons, it’s possible that because my total order is so low, my coupons won’t end up doubled, correct? This seems like Price Chopper is making customers do a lot of hoop jumping. I haven’t ever seen that rule in any other coupon doubling stores I’ve shopped in. The only bonus I see in the Capital District area is if the manufacturers now start supplying us with 99 cent coupons instead of $1.

On another note, does this policy change mean that Wegman’s is finally looking at moving into the Capital District? They have been doubling for decades and the buzz is that they may finally be headed here. This would seem to be a jump on the potential competition for Price Chopper….

    • Lauren says:

Thanks Jean, for the comment. Here is a link to a post about the 50% rule, http://www.iamthatlady.com/2011/05/price-chopper-50-coupon-rule-do-you-know/. Another way you can get around it if you know you are going to only be purchasing a few things but know you will be back later on in the week, is to purchase a Price Chopper gift card in that transaction, to use on a future purchase. It would be awesome if Wegmans would move to the Capital District, I know that it would be a huge hit there!

      • Jean says:

Thanks for the idea. I’m not completely opposed to purchasing gift cards to make the deal. I still think it’s slimy of Price Chopper to put this 50% of your post Advantedge total rule on the double coupons. I’m no extreme couponer, but isn’t it enough to say you can’t coupon beyond the price of the item? If this were a real issue, then wouldn’t other stores in the state who’ve been doubling for years (Wegmans, Tops and P&C before it’s demise) have had this in their coupon rules? Get real, Price Chopper. Play the game with reasonable rules.

      • Jill says:

It’s not Wegmans, but ShopRite that is moving into the Capital Region….there is one headed to Niskayuna soon.

  23. Jethro says:

Why not just allow a 99 cent additioin to the dollar coupons? (so 1.00 coupon becomes 1.99 savings) Otherwise…admit the truth and say that you only match up to 75 cents.

  24. Michelle says:

One VERY BAD thing that many people I don’t think read, is that the total of your double coupons cannot exceed 50% of your order after AdvantEdge discounts. So if your bill with your card is 20.00, and you have 13 coupons for things for 50 cents off..that would be 13.00 off..the bill should be 7.00 but now they’ll charge you 10.00 for your order. BAD BAD BAD….

  25. melissah says:

Im pretty sure the PC by me will be closed soon now. Our store was one of the few that doubled $1 coupons regularly. We have 4 other grocery chain stores within 3 miles of my PC- they all double up to 99cents already and dont have a 50% rule. Not to mention the reg prices are better elsewhere. The only thing PC had going for them by me was $1 coupon doubling- it was the only thing that kept them competitive…oh well, no more price chopper for me as there is no longer any savings compared to my other store options.

  26. dorothy says:

I stopped shopping at Stop & Shops when they decided to discontinue competitors coupons. Now, I believe I will no longer shop PC due to their new policies. I really dislike PC, but they did have some good deals, but usually not worth the hassels. The Putnam, Ct store is a bunch of “Coupon Nazis!!! ” Each and every coupon is scrutinized, like the coupon police is watching!!!!
Off to Market Basket or Shaws for me!!!

  27. Sara says:

I just looked on the PC full coupon policy site. It says effective 6/26/11 on the top and has a drop down menu to check the doubling policy of your particular store. I just found out that one of the PC’s in my area (the smaller one without a seafood/meat counter) doubles up to 1.00!!! The larger store only doubles to .99. Is this for real? or was that accidentally included in the updated policy and just never changed?
