New Updated Price Chopper Coupon policy

February
6th
Price Chopper has once again updated their coupon policy, this was actually updated a few weeks back, but I wanted to see how it worked out before I posted about it.
The changes have been highlighted in RED.
Price Chopper Coupon Policy – you can see the entire Price Chopper Coupon Policy policy here.
  • The Customer’s or Store AdvantEdge card must be scanned or entered prior to coupon deductions.
  • Only one manufacturer’s coupon, digital or paper, may be used on an item purchased, not to exceed the retail price after AdvantEdge discounts. Price Chopper accepts one manufacturer and one Price Chopper store coupon for the same item (unless prohibited elsewhere in our policy, on our coupons, or by the manufacturer in their terms or embedded within their barcode).
  • We will accept only one (1) manufacturer coupon for an advertised Buy one, Get one Free Offer. We will not accept a manufacturer’s coupon for the product that is received free as part of a Buy one, Get one Free Offer.
  • Manufacturer coupons are limited to 4 manufacturer coupons of like items per day.
  • Free items, mail-in certificates, unspecified items, and Buy one, Get one offers will be redeemed at face value or free value only.
  • Coupons will not be accepted beyond their expiration dates.
  • Refunds and rebate checks will be cashed at the Customer Service desk and deposited.
  • In states which permit coupons for cigarettes, tobacco, milk and alcoholic beverages, these coupons can not be doubled.
  • We are required to comply with all manufacturers’ coupons requirement. Any other use constitutes fraud.
  • We do not double and/or triple coupons specifically excluded by the manufacturer.
  • We reserve the right to limit quantities.
  • We reserve the right to accept or reject any coupon.

Special Coupon Offers (Double and/or Triple Coupons):

  • We may double up to 4 manufacturer coupons of like items per day.
  • Total double or triple value of a coupon may not exceed the items retail price after AdvantEdge discounts.
  • We will double/triple one manufacturer coupon for an advertised Buy one, Get one free offer. We will not accept a manufactures coupon for the product that is received as free.
  • We will double/triple one manufacturer coupon that has a purchase requirement of 2, in conjunction with a Buy one, Get one free offer.
  • The total of all double coupons cannot exceed 50% of the order after AdvantEdge discounts. Single value will be deducted there after.
  • Triple coupons cannot exceed the retail price of the item or the total of the order after AdvantEdge discounts.
  • Digital coupons will be redeemed at face value only and are not subject to doubling or tripling.

What do you think about the new policy of 4 like coupons per day?  Will this affect your grocery shopping at Price Chopper?

  1. Jill says:

I guess they are trying to stop multiple orders with coupons….which really could drive traffic away. Unless the “good deal” doesn’t need the advantage card – which is probably how they are tracking it.

  2. Linda says:

No I rarely have 4 like coupons anyhow.

  3. Kelley says:

Do you think they changed this because the shelves were clearing too fast. I know alot of people in my area who don’t coupon that get really upset when the shelves are cleared by Monday. I just things (policies) will change more often now because more people are using coupons these days! I just hope certain people who coupon don’t ruin it for people who coupon that really need too!

  4. I am THAT lady : Charla says:

I don’t see how this is going to be that big of a deal, honestly, do we really need to get more than four of one item in the same trip? I think it is great, now I won’t have to run out to the store on Sunday! If it was a killer deal and I needed more than 4 than I would just go twice that week…no biggy!

    Rock on PC, very reasonable!

  5. MJ says:

I don’t usually have four of the same coupon, so I don’t think this change will bother me. I do coupon and get extremely frustrated when the shelves are cleared of sale/coupon items by Monday morning though. Especially when I have spent hours trying to be as prepared as possible with separate lists and stacks of coupons for specific transactions only to get to the store and find that I wasted my time because the things I have coupons for are gone. I suppose it’s all just a part of the process and I try to just maintain a positive attitude. I do have my flustered moments in the store though, with a baby carrier in the large part of the cart, a four yr old in the front part, my coupon binder, well, wherever it fits, and me trying to formulate a “plan B”. I pointed this issue out at my store last week. They were very kind, but basically said there was nothing they could do. Lauren, I commend you on your ever-positive attitude!

  6. brooke says:

It doesn’t mention accepting other store coupons??? I love that my store took Target coupons. Is that changing too?

  7. brooke says:

It doesn’t mention accepting other store coupons??? I love that my store took Target coupons. Is that changing too? The limit of four doesn’t change anything… maybe they won’t be sold out by the time I get there!

  8. TravisO says:

I’m not happy about all the little changes that’s been happening to couponing over the past few months, but this is a pretty minor change.

I rarely use more than 4 of the same coupon in a transaction, at best this might affect anybody trying to take advantage of those 4 cereals for one price deals, but only if you want to get your cereals in groups.

Let’s not forget nothing is stopping you from going back the next day for another round.

  9. Rachael says:

I’m surprised by the not doubling milk coupons….is that new?

  10. Ed says:

I think that it’s impossible to enforce anyway. All the cashiers are not going to remember everyone that goes through every line

  11. Julie says:

Kind of stinks!!But shop Rite does the same so no big deal. Thanks for posting and letting us know!

  12. Abby says:

This doesn’t really affect me…so I’m happy about the change! Now, if only they’d get rid of that 50% rule!

  13. Carmalina says:

The Price Chopper near me, has ALWAYS been only 4 coupons, and they just started doubling coupons because Shop Rite came back to the area.

  14. Richard Quinn says:

I just called Schenectady and spoke with a CSR about my local PC only accepting 2 competitor’s coupons. She mentioned the 4 like coupon rule, but that doesn’t apply to competitor’s coupons. She also added that they are trying to remove BJ’s from their list of competitors because the size of the club packs are not available in their stores, e.g. 175 oz. Wisk. Be prepared for more changes.

  15. Ron says:

Are catalina’s considered manufacturer coupons? If I require large quantities of an item I will pre-order, so that I do not take away from other shoppers of that item.

  16. Crystal Mason says:

I thought it was four already :)
If I really need something and have more than four I will bring my BF (hey, he eats this stuff too).
I don’t think I have tried to use more than four. I don’t blame being out of stuff entirely on couponers though. Like this week with the dish soap and the body wash, those were pretty good deals even without the coupons and the Fulton PC was running near empty when I went Sunday night.

  17. Erin Vaughn says:

Manufacturer coupons are limited to 4 manufacturer coupons of like items per day….
If this policy has been in place for weeks they are not systematically doing this. I was at Price Chopper on Saturday and did multiple transactions with the same coupons and they didn’t stop me. Also, I shop on the last day of the sale so I am not the shelf clearer in the beginning of the week. If they don’t have what I want I just get a rain check and use it on my next trip. I was able to get vlassic pickles last week for $.50 so I got 10 different jars. $.50 pickles don’t happen often and my daughter is a pickle junky.

  18. Sarah says:

I don’t care about the 4 like coupons per day, I don’t think k have ever used 4 like coupons and if so I could always bring my hubby. What I am PISSED about is their change in the pharmacy advantage gas policy. The old policy for every new script you filled you got a $1.00 off your gas, that added up to $20 bucks per tank so I switched my script and started using their pharmacy. With no notice they changed the rewards program to every 5 scripts filled you get 50 cents off a gallon. Pretty much they went from a buck to ten cents with no warning. I have to say if they stop the gas program all together I will stop shopping there!

  19. Kate M. says:

Will $1 off coupons now double? I don’t see anything about the max of what they will double in the new coupon policy.

  20. brandy says:

It hasn’t really effected me too bad, i tend not to have more than 4 coupons in a single trip, to much to add to the stockpile all at once, but if i do i will break up my transactions. Once a month i do a BIG shop and do more than 5 transactions and the cashiers put all of my coupons through. I also had milk coupons last week, they were .75 and they doubled. I’m kind of stuck on the “coupon total not to exceed more than 50% of the total.” It confuses me.

I do not like it at all..

I recently recieved a rain check on energy bars…made it out for 10…does this now mean I can only buy 4 if I want to use coupons?

I lost out on the oppurtunity to buy more BECUASE they were sold out…THAT is WHY I have the rain check.. I ususally LIKE rainchecks…but if I will be “punished” by only buying four when they did not order enough stock….seems sneeky to me… HAVE a sale…do not order enough product…sell out…in one day…offer rainchecks…only offer 4 PER WEEK+RAINCHECK….seems shady to this customer…

I honestly do not understand all the “concern” stores are showing about couponers…don’t THEY get reimbursed by the manufacturer who made those coupons…so THEY are still getting thier $$ it is just not from MY pocket…

Through the couponers dilligence..she/he is EARNING these coupons…(Time spent clipping/organizing/etc) to help pay for thier family’s groceries…in these times..an alternative source for middle incomers to support/help out their families is crucial..

      Scissor salute to couponers everywhere!
And, second thoughts about shoppong at Price Chopper…

  21. Susan Ward says:

This dosen’t really bother me. If I need more than 4 of something I’ll bring a friend. What confuses me is that after the advantage card savings andcoupons total amount after 50% of the total the rest of your coupons don’t double. I haven’t been doing this for to long and its getting very confusing toooo much math!!!!

    • Tracy says:

I’m confused with that too. I have never seen that in a policy. I have never had it effect me but if you were going in for just a few items it might be bad. Take those $.50 pickles. If all you wanted was 2 jars of pickles would they not have doubled the coupon since the pickles were $2 and the coupon was .75?
The four like coupon limit does not effect me I never have that many of one coupon. If I bought that many of one item then I would run out of room and not be able to buy next week’s deal.

      • Tracy says:

So basically if my total before coupons was $30 they would only double coupons until they hit $15, then if I had more they would not double? That makes me think about my shopping their since it is not the main store I shop at. I usually only go for sales.

      • Erin Vaughn says:

        Tracy,

You are correct in your thinking if you bought 2 jars of pickles using 2 $.75 coupons they wouldn’t double. I try to be very careful when I do my couponing so I don’t hit this point but it has happened to me a couple times with the really good sale items

  22. liz says:

I went to PC with BJs coup and only took the ones that read “any” like “any hellmans mayonaise “ect…the girl tried to read the fine print on the picture and told me I needed to buy at least 2 !!! You couldn’t read the oz. butshe said Bjs are always bigger …they had a new policy for Bjs This was at Utica PC.

  23. Amy Murphy says:

Im guessing maybe they get complaints from their coupon service or the manufacturer about how many coupons they are redeeming in a given time frame? I would think that would be the only reason to limit like coupons. Hmmm I wonder how diligent the cashiers will be about people doing multiple transactions with 4 like in one and 4 like in another. Will they even notice? I dont often have more than 4 like but occasionally.

  24. Tracy says:

The only accepting 1 coupon on the BOGO bothers me more. At my old store in PA items on BOGO ring up half price so you can use 2 coupons and buy only one at the sale price if needed.

  25. Rachel says:

I have been reading the comments, and the 50% thing (no doubling after) is not new. I started P.C. shopping several months ago, and it was in place then. I have never run into any trouble with it during my trips, although I am not ‘extreme’. Give them all of the coupons you need to have doubled first (under $1), and then the $1 and up. That helps.
I have never used four like coupons at a time, so it doesn’t affect me at all!

  26. Rachel says:

    P.S. Which stores TRIPLE coupons?!!
