Black Friday vs. Cyber Monday

If you are new to the deal hunting game, you may not be familiar with the terms Black Friday and Cyber Monday.  So what is the difference between the two?  They are both some of the busiest retails deals of the year, where people shop till they drop preparing themselves for Christmas and stock up on items that they need at a great price!

Black Friday:

Black Friday is always the day after Thanksgiving, The term ‘Black Friday’ originated in Philadelphia around the year 1966, where it was used to describe the heavy  traffic that occurred the day after Thanksgiving.  Later on, around 1975 the term Black Friday started meaning that companies would turn around their profits (from running a yearly deficit) and are now in the ‘black’.

Black Friday is usually the start of the best deals for Christmas shopping, but the past few years we are seeing more and more stores start these sales even before Black Friday.  Stores are starting to open up on Thanksgiving Night instead of waiting to open up the day after.  Toys R Us is opening at 10pm this year, as well as many other retailers opening at midnight.

Cyber Monday:

Cyber Monday is the term that means the Monday after Black Friday.   The Term Cyber Monday didn’t begin until around 2005, when shop.org deemed it to be the biggest online shopping day of the year (Source – Wikepedia).  Cyber Monday sales are all online, and 77% of marketers and companies across the country see a huge increase in sales on this day.  We see deeply discounted online prices and deals all day long on Cyber Monday.

Because most of us are looking for deals for Christmas, I will be posting more retails deals than I typically do.  These deals sometimes only last an hour or less, so if you see something that you like you may want to jump on it.  I do recommend setting a Christmas budget and try not go over it, don’t just purchase something because it’s a good deal.

This is the busiest time of year for me as a blogger too, so make sure that you are signed up for my Daily Email Newsletter so you don’t’ miss a deal and also sign up to follow me on Facebook and Twitter.

We have already started with the ad scans for Black Friday here.

You can also expect that I will be working all day on Cyber Monday to make sure to keep you up to date on all the hot deals you can find online!

some sites started their cyber Monday sales on Saturday/Sunday. I myself bring a black Friday shopper for the last 15 years am getting very disappointed with the retail stores starting sales at 10pm or midnight and then others starting at 5am.
