My Price Chopper Shopping Trip – Spend $8 and Saved $30 + a Funny story!

May
3rd

I took a trip to Price Chopper today and spend $8.00 on all this and saved $30!  You can find the Tops Doubler coupons here and the Price Chopper tripler coupons here.  Plus make sure that you check out the Price Chopper Coupon Matchups for more deals.

I used Tops Doubler coupons on the McCain Purely Potatoes (Free after doubler and SavingStar deposit), Pepsi Next (Free after Doubler) , and Yoplait Greek Yogurts ($0.29 after doubler).  I used the Price Chopper Doubler coupons on the bread (free after tripler), and the Schar Breadcrumbs ($0.99 after tripler).

I also attempted to purchase another Mastercard deal but was really embarrassed because for some reason my debit card was coming up as having insufficient funds…. I forgot to take out my cash this week for groceries and thought I could just use my debit card.  I was so embarrassed as ‘the coupon lady who always uses cash’ tried to use a debit card and didn’t have enough money :)  Apparently, we forgot to transfer money from our savings account to our checking account this week after making a large purchase….oh well…..I guess it has been a while since I have embarrassed myself in the grocery store.

Lesson learned – ALWAYS use cash at the grocery store :)

Valuable Syracuse Money Saving Resource through Syracuse.com – Find n Save!

May
3rd

I am so excited about this new local resource for people eager to save money!  Syracuse.com has a new feature called Find N Save which features local Store Circulars, Local Ads, Local Store Coupons, and more local money saving tips!

In weeks where I forget to pick up my newspaper or accidentally throw mine into the recycling bin before I have looked at the Circulars – its hard to find local ads.  I never know if the Rite Aid Ad online is the same one that was in my paper, so this is a great local resource to keep bookmarked so that you know that the store circulars are right for your area!

So head on over and check out the Find N Save section over on Syracuse.com!

Our night out at Mohegan Manor/Club Sushi – Make your own Sushi Class!

May
2nd

Mark and I spent last night at Club Sushi & Steak at Mohegan Manor Make your Own Sushi Class - as you can tell we were really excited to get out without the kids :)

This was a great night out because we often do the same things for date nights, so this was something very fun, educational, and different for us!   We arrived and sat around the bar area with 9 other guests to begin our sushi making class!   He is what my table setting looked like, it was so elegant.

The night started with a glass of wine and this fried Calamari Salad.

Chef Peter did a great job teaching us how to make our Sushi – he was a great teacher and very funny!  It made the evening even better :)

It was so much fun learning how to do make sushi – we wanted to learn so that we could start making it at our house as a cheap date night when the kids are asleep!

I am very sad to say that I am a horrible Sushi Maker – my husband Mark did a perfect job (his Sushi Roll is on the left and my Sushi Roll is on the right).  In my defense I had to use a Soy Wrapper instead of the traditional Seaweed wrapper because the seaweed one has traces of gluten in it.  Chef Peter said that it is harder to work with….

Then Chef Peter proceeded to make me this amazing sushi roll – which was his ‘special creation’.  He used the Soy Wrappers but still made it look great!  One of the reasons that Mohegan Manor is my favorite restaurant is that they will create custom dishes for people, especially ones with food allergies like me :)    I just had to ask him to create a Gluten-Free Roll and this is what he created, it was delicious!

The night ended with our choice of dessert – Mark got a Lemon Cake and I got a Creme Brûlée!

Mark and I also got to sit with a few of you – readers Ellen and Ann made it out to the class and it was great to hang out and get to know you both!

Mohegan Manor holds this Sushi class the first Tuesday of every month, and I would HIGHLY recommend that you sign up because it was a great night out!

A Day in the Life of a Blogger – Finding Balance between Family and Blogging

May
1st

I hope you have enjoyed this blogging series – whether you are a blogger or not.  I hope it has enlightened you to the fact that blogging is NOT for the faint at heart, nor is it an easy job. However, it is a VERY rewarding job and perfect so I can stay at home with my kids and be a mommy!

If you missed the first three posts on this topic, make sure you read  A Day in the Life of a Blogger,  How to How to Start a Blog. and How to Make Money Blogging.

Today I am going to wrap up this series with the topic of how to find balance between blogging and family.  I sat and thought about this a lot today – because honestly it’s something that I struggle with. I think every mom wants to be a good mom, and being a working mom is definitely hard!  Some days I struggle with wanting to be a full time stay at home mom again, but then I realize that God has called me to share my passion of seeing other being freed from their financial strain.  I try my best to make everyone happy, and give my kids their mommy 100% when I am not working.

I wrote about my blogging schedule in my first post about A Day in the Life of a Blogger, but what happens when you are blogging and you don’t have the finances to hire a babysitter because you aren’t even making money yet?

This is what I have started doing the past few months – it used to be written on a desktop calendar, but now I just write it wherever I can find paper :)

I write down my Personal Goals for the day and also my Business Goals for the day.  Because I do have a Virtual Assistant doing many of the deal posting during the day, my goal now is to focus on more videos, money saving articles, and shopping trips.  My Personal Goals now are focused on being a mommy 1st, not a blogger 1st….

The first year that I ran this blog, I really struggled with my priorities (just being honest here…).  I am by nature an all or nothing person, I give 100% or NADA.  That means when I jumped into starting ‘I am THAT lady’ I started blogging like all these ‘big’ bloggers do, and totally exhausted myself.  I was pregnant, sat on the couch a lot of the day,and used TV as a babysitter.  Then I had my daughter Kaylee – and she put everything into perspective for me (Sometimes I need a slap in the face, or a baby :) )  Kaylee just turned 1 and in the past year I have hired 2 assistants, and a babysitter.  I ‘try’ to give myself structured work time – sometimes things pop up and I have to run to the computer to post them (like FREE Domino’s Pizza!)  For the most part – I work my work hours during nap time and at night, I also have my babysitter a few hours too.

My personal goals are to make sure that I am a Mom first, deals come and go and trust me…I could deal blog ALL.DAY.LONG!

Here are 10 things that I want to teach my children through working and being a stay at home mom:

  1. I want my children to know that I always read my bible first thing in the morning and that mommy loves Jesus.
  2. I want my children to know that I will always make time for their daddy, because marriage is something to be treasured.
  3. I want my children to know that mommy’s email and website are never more important than them.
  4. I want my children to know that their mommy works hard and helped us get us out of debt, and also is working hard now so they don’t have to get in debt to go to college.
  5. I want my children to know that I always have time for them.
  6. I want my children to know that there is never a deal that is better than spending time with them.
  7. I want my children to learn to work hard and play hard.  I take entire weekends off now – I want them to know that I do this because I need to rest.
  8. I want my children to learn how to be smart with their money early on in life.
  9. I want my children to learn how to prioritize their life.
  10. I want my children to know that I love them more than ANYTHING!

Here are some tips on how to balance your time with blogging and Family:

  1. Start by reading this great ebook by Amy Lynn Andrews - it talks about Balancing your Time and telling it what to do.
  2. Set a limit of posts for the day – then stick to it.
  3. Set a schedule of when you want your posts to go up.  My matchups go up on Saturdays and Monday, Wednesdays I have a recipe post,  and Fridays I have a DIY post.  I stick to this schedule every week – my husband knows it and my kids know it.
  4. Ask for help – swap out with other bloggers or ask a friend to help out.
  5. Set goals for your personal life and also set business goals.  What do you want your blog to do?  How will that affect your family?  I try to think of the big picture – who do I want to be as a mom, wife, and friend?  How does my blog fit into that – not the other way around.

Life is short – kids are only small once, and you cannot post everything for everyone, so I am trying to make the best out of this!

I would love to hear your tips for balancing family and Blogging!  What do you think helps you balance work and family?
